Past life issue
Occasionally I am asked to tap for what a client believes are past life issues. My initial response is to say, if it's emerging now from a previous life then it's worth tapping for what is presenting now. And it works that way. But not always. Here's the remarkable story of a lady who came to see me recently with tinnitus and occasional Meniere's disease attacks in her right ear. Little did we know where it would take us.
The Meniere's had been treated with acupuncture 10 years ago when it first appeared but a few weeks ago it had returned albeit with less impact this time, being laid low in her bed for one day as opposed to 3 when it first appeared. However what was really bothering 'Elaine' was the terrible wooshing noise in her ear that was so distracting. When the tinnitus was worse the Meniere's attack came. It could be brought on especially by the sound of children screaming in a playground although she had no bothersome memory at all connected to a scream, nor did she feel any emotional intensity on talking about a scream. The tinnitus was a 7 on the intensity scale.
We started off by trying to discover any emotional event in the past that might have triggered the tinnitus. The death of both parents was well before the onset, however and the emotional impact of their deaths had been resolved by other therapies a long time ago and was a zero. We did several rounds of tapping for the tinnitus itself but as I suspected there was no improvement.
I then asked her to tune into her right ear. I asked her, 'If your ear had a voice and was able to speak, what would it tell you?’
She considered for a moment then said, 'It's to do with a past life'. But she wasn't able to be more precise. So we tapped for the following:
-- acknowledging the tinnitus and forgiving herself for attracting the condition
--forgiving herself for inflicting harm upon anyone, intentionally or unintentionally
-- forgiving anyone who may have inflicted harm upon her, intentionally or unintentionally
-- allowing whatever is creating the imbalance to surface so that she may release it.
Elaine looked somewhat reflective when we had finished and the slight flicker of emotion in her eyes told me something had passed through her mind. She said that she was reminded of a recurring nightmare she had had from age 7 to around 13. It had always terrified her and telling her father about it had not helped at all. In the dream she saw an native American shaman/ medicine man (she could tell by his headdress) stretching out his hands, beckoning her to come with him. It never varied for years, always the same and always terrifying. Tapping for her feelings relaxed her dramatically and she
could now see herself turning away from him instead of being drawn to him despite her terror. Another round followed with some choices and variations on the theme:
-- I choose to relax and let my fear go
-- I've been the shaman before and done it all before. I don't need this pathway again.
-- I choose to concentrate on my life as it is now
-- I acknowledge his energy but it’s not for me now. I choose to do what feels right for me now.
-- I choose to find my inner balance. I can let him go.
Elaine immediately felt different and visibly relaxed. She felt instead a love for the shaman that she had not felt before. He now appeared as a kind person and she could clearly visualise his face and some of the adornments on his chest.
She then revealed that she had emigrated some 20 years ago to Canada from the UK after her father's death and had felt as if she had returned home. A scene from what she thought was a previous lifetime then appeared in her mind of her as a child playing contentedly outside a tepee. That was all she could see but I felt there was more and prompted her to continue visualising that scene. She was then taken to a nearby river where she could hear children's screams and shouts as they played in the water. She felt no discomfort at all on hearing the sounds, just joy at being back where she had been so happy so long ago.
I then asked if there was any change in her tinnitus. She was astonished at how good she felt and said the tinnitus was still there but distant, no longer so dominant and her ear was now telling her that she had taken the first steps in the healing process. So we did a further round of tapping:
-- as a shaman in my own right with full knowledge from the past of the old ways I choose to step fully into my own power and I release any remaining negativity now.
The difference in Elaine was there for anyone to tell. She was now at peace and reconciled with whatever her past life had involved and she left feeling very positive at the results.
Although a past life may often exert an influence because of overwhelming sadness, despair etc, the same holds true for opposite emotions. A truly happy existence may need to be released because it too has an influence that continuously pulls back to the energy and vibrations of that time.
For further reading on that topic I would recommend Alberto Villoldo’s fascinating book, ‘The Four Insights’.
Elaine sent me a follow up email shortly afterwards: Just wanted to say thanks again for showing me a way in which I truly can get relief from "this terrible swooshing in my ear". The level of noise has been fluctuating but mostly staying at a very acceptable level. I find EFT incredibly fascinating and am eagerly reading more.
